The annual meeting of the Sooners vs Cowboys is called Bedlam. This game is about more than just football. This game is about the intrastate bragging rights for the next 12 months until the next bedlam game. You can throw out all things like records and schedules for this game, as it is only about Sooners vs Pokes.
When thinking about this storied rivalry, only one word can sum it up, HOSTILITY. Crimson and Orange mix about as well as Coca-Cola and Napalm, the rivalry is both classic and explosive, as no punches are held back, no blow is too low, and there is no gray area, you’re either with one or the other. You can expect the same intensity in this game if the teams are 10-1 or 1-10, when Bedlam is on, there is no past, there is no future, there is only Bedlam. The will to win between both universities sparks an electric atmosphere of hard play, pride, and bruised egos.
The 2008 game had huge hype coming into game time. The Sooners were coming off and overwhelming victory against Texas Tech and needed to beat Oklahoma State to secure their spot in the Big 12 Championship game. Oklahoma State was bound and determined to do anything in their power to stop that from happening. The Sooners came in and the game was tight until the last 4 minutes when the Sooners would score twice and eventually go on to win 61-41 in Stillwater. This led to the Sooners going to the Big 12 title game where they would win, and gain a berth into the BCS National Championship.
The 2009 matchup looks like potentially the most intriguing matchup of the last 25 years. The potential for both teams to be 10-0 is high and if that happened, the Bedlam game would be the game of the century in terms of Bedlam. Both teams are highly ranked pre-season and if a top 5 matchup were to occur, the hostility and electricity for this game would be unrivaled by any game in the nation.
