Minnesota Twins TicketsIn 1960 The Washington Senators got the go ahead to move their team to Minnesota, and dawned the new team name, the Minnesota Twins. Since 1960, the Twins have had 12 different managers, called two stadiums their home, and won two World Championships. Six of their players have been inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame, 5 of their players have won Rookie of the Year, and two others have won World Series MVP honors. The Minnesota Twins have won their division 8 different times, appeared in the League Championship Series 5 times, and appeared in 3 World Series. In the 1960’s, Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew were two of their more famous players, both inducted to the Hall. Despite having franchise players of this caliber, the twins would not win a World Series until 1987. In 1987, Kent Hrbek and Kirby Puckett became the face of the Minnesota Twins, and led them to their 3rd League Championship appearance, beating the Tigers in 5 games. The Twins were heavy underdogs going into the World Series as they faced the St Louis Cardinals. The Series went to a majestic 7 games, where “The Terminator” Jeff Reardon retired all 3 batters he faced to close out the victory, and give the Twins their first ever World Series Championship. It would be another four years before the Minnesota Twins would return to baseball’s coveted World Series. To do it, the Twins became the first team ever to go from last place the season before to first place, quite a remarkable turnaround. The Twins battled the Blue Jays in the ALCS, and then found themselves facing the Atlanta Braves, a team that dominated the 90’s. Home field advantage became a deciding factor as the Series went to the final 7th game. The Metrodome was buzzing for game 7, and it proved to be one of the greatest World Series games ever. Jack Morris pitched a shut-out in game 7, to close out a historic World Series. 5 of the 7 games played that Series, were decided by 1 run, 5 games decided by the very last at-bat, with 3 games going into extra innings. In three World Series appearances, the Minnesota Twins are 11-1 at home, and 0-9 on the road. The Metrodome has proven to be one of the toughest places for a team to come play in. There is something about a dome and home field fans that makes it almost impossible to overcome.
