Kenny Chesney, a Brief History

Kenny was born March 26, 1968 in Knoxville, Tennessee and has a younger sister named Jennifer. He used to play a receiver on his High School football team. A year after he graduated High School, he received his first guitar for Christmas and began to teach himself how to play. He had attempted guitar when he was 5, but quit because it hurt his fingers. While in college Kenny played tunes at local places around campus such as restaurants and clubs. He recorded his first album in 1989 and he sold them at one of his public performances. He used the money he raised to buy a new guitar.

After he graduated college with a degree in advertising, Kenny headed to Nashville where he performed at several local clubs. He signed a contract with BMI and Opryland Music Group in 1992 and by 2000; Chesney released his Greatest Hits compilation. It included four new tracks, as well as re-recordings of "Fall in Love", "The Tin Man" and "Back Where I Come From". The new version of "The Tin Man" was one of the disc's three singles, with two of the new tracks, "I Lost It" and "Don’t Happen Twice", also serving as singles.

On May 9, 2005 Kenny married actress Renee Zellweger in a ceremony at the island of St. John. They had met in January at a tsunami relief benefit concert. After only four months of marriage, they announced their plans for an annulment. Renee cited “fraud” as the reason in the related papers. After media scrutiny of her use of the word "fraud", she qualified the use of the term, stating it was "simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny's character". The annulment was finalized in late December 2005.

In February 2006, Kenny was presented with a plaque commemorating his sales of 25 million albums. In May of the same year, he was honored at the Academy of Country Music Awards as Entertainer of the Year. In 2007 he was once again named Entertainer of the Year. On November 7, 2007 Kenny Chesney was named the CMA Entertainer of the Year for the third time in four years.
Kenny enjoys boating and being on the water. He feels his experiences with the water helped him write some of his top hits and find himself and what he wants out of life.

But, behind a celebrity is controversy. Like the tale in July 2009 that claimed he was flirting with Jessica Simpson just days before her breakup with Tony Romo at a party hosted by one of Kenny’s friends.  Kenny denied any misinterpretation of the events, stating Jessica was merely being friendly. Just the year before, he was claimed to have been flirting with Shania Twain following her separation from her husband at the Country Music Association Awards.

Flirting or not, Kenny has proven himself to be a great artist.
