Cleveland Indians TicketsSince 1889, The Cleveland Indians have gone thru 39 Managers, 4 Stadiums, Won 2 World Championships, and have hosted 5 All-Star games. In that time, they have also had 26 Players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, retired 7 of their players numbers, and have had 4 different Team names.Their first World Championship came in 1920, against the then Brooklyn Dodgers. Back then, the World Series was a best 5 out of 9 affair, and the Indians beat the Dodgers in 7 games. This series yielded the first ever World Series Grand Slam, as well as the first ever Home run by a pitcher. Both game 6 and 7 were shut-outs, giving the Indians their first ever World Championship. Over the course of their history, the Cleveland Indians players have won 4 Rookie of the Years, 3 Most Valuable Player awards, along with 1 All-Star Most Valuable player, 2 Cy Young awards, along with Cy Young himself. Indian Pitching has brought along 14 No-Hit performances to Cleveland fans, along with an unbelievable 3 un-assisted triple plays, one of which occurred in a World Series game. In 1974, the Indians promoters decided to have a Nickel Beer Night. During the promotion beer would be offered for a nickel apiece. This would lead to one of the largest crowds at Municipal Stadium in years, and would be the recipe for disaster as the fans ended up getting drunk on the cheep beer, and began to riot. This would lead to the Indians forfeiting the game against the Texas Rangers as players had to be rushed off the field to escape the flying beer bottles. The fiasco ensued a ban of beer promotions for all of baseball. 1948 once again brought Cleveland Indian fans something to celebrate. A one game play-off was needed to decide the winner of the American League Pennant, and it was played at Boston’s Fenway Park. Lou Boudreau’s 2 home runs and knuckleballer Gene Bearden’s lights out pitching secured Cleveland’s spot in the World Series. The Series with the Boston Braves went to 6 games, and brought Cleveland their 2nd Championship in their team’s history. The Indians would find themselves in 3 more World Series since their 1948 victory, but were unable to come out on top. In 2005, they were 15 games behind the leading Chicago White Sox by the end of June. Heading into the All-Star break, the Indians won 12 out of 13 games, which started their run at first place. In September Cleveland again had a stretch of 20 games which they went 18-2, drastically shaving the White Sox gigantic lead. It would not be enough as the Indians lost 3 straight games against the Royals and Devil Rays, and where then swept by the Chicago White Sox at home in the last series of the season. This brought an end to a strong comeback chance at going to the post season.
