Since their first season in 1892, the Alabama Crimson Tide have been one of the most storied and decorated programs in NCAA history, boasting 12 National Championships.  Of those 12 Championships, six came under the coaching of the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant.  From 1958-1982, the Bear led Alabama through the glory years winning 232 games, 13 SEC conference titles, and 11 bowl victories.  At the time of Bryant’s retirement he was the winningest coach in college football history.  Football season in Alabama is one of the most anticipated and buzzed about events in both the state, and the Nation.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama is a madhouse on gamedays, and the interstates leading in on game day are packed and backed up for miles with Tide fans rolling in to watch the Crimson and White play.  Since the Bear Bryant era, only one National Championship has been won by the university, but in 2007, Nick Saban signed on as the new head coach.  The media buzz about Saban was huge, and in the spring game, more than 90,000 fans flocked in to watch the scrimmage.   Saban has had great success since arriving in Tuscaloosa. In the 2008 season, Alabama was undefeated going into the SEC championship game, before back to back losses to Florida and Utah.  The successful season ended with a bitter 12-2 record, but Alabama was finally on the radar as a title contender again.  2009 was the year that Saban brought back the Tide back to a BCS National Championship game with Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram leading the way. The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Texas Longhorns to put Alabama once again at the top of college football. The Alabama football program is expected to finsih the 2010 season at the #1 spot again.

Bryant Denny Stadium holds a capacity of 92,138.  The stadium was built in 1928, and was originally named Denney Stadium, but in 1975 the name was changed to Bryant Denny Stadium in honor of coaching legend, Paul “Bear” Bryant.  The stadium is the seventh largest on campus stadium in the nation, and the 18th largest stadium by seating in the world.  Since the 1988 season, Alabama has sold out EVERY home game, and in February 2009, UofA gave approval to build an expansion in the south endzone.  The expansion will make Bryant Denny the fifth largest on campus stadium in the nation, the eighth largest stadium in the world, and the second largest in the SEC.
